Bad Karlshafen is the town of natural brine springs. The town's first settlers were Huguenots - Protestants who fled from France and found a tolerant new home thanks to the landgrave Carl zu Hessen. A former tobacco factory is now home to the German Huguenot Centre, with a museum, genealogical research centre, archive and library. There has been a curative brine spring here since 1838. It is used to treat asthma, bronchitis, rheumatism and sciatica. Weser-Therme is a modern spa offering a wide range of treatments as well as a 'Gradierwerk', a traditional saltmaking structure of twigs, now used for the beneficial effects of the saline vapours. A stunning sauna area with a sauna boat invites you to relax and unwind.

Canoe trips on the Weser and the Diemel, cycling tours on the Weser-Radweg and walking on the Weserbergland-Weg offer additional options for an active holiday in Bad Karlshafen. River cruises from Bad Karlshafen are offered by Linie 2000 and Flotte Weser.
