Grünenplan is situated in the Solling-Vogler region of the Weserbergland, surrounded by hills and mountains covered in mixed forest.
For hikers, there are easy routes in the area and around the town. The Ith-Hils-Trail has been quality-certified by Germany's national hiking association 'Deutscher Wanderverband'. The 15 m high Wilhelm Raabe viewing tower offers stunning views of the valley basin and beyond. For relaxation, there is a small park with a pond, a hydrotherapy 'water walking' pool and a forest playground for children.
Grünenplan has also made a name for itself as a glassmaking centre. Archaeological discoveries show that the glassmaking tradition dates back into the 11th century. The Erich Mäder Glass Museum and the Glasmacherhaus present the story of the industry from its earliest beginnings to the present day.
